WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED

Since I was elected in 2021, I’ve worked with the board, staff, and community to make steady, meaningful progress for the Town of Wendell. That’s included investing in the people who serve our community, building the infrastructure we need to support responsible growth, and improving quality of life for everyone who calls Wendell home.

Investing in People

Behind every service and every plan is a team of dedicated public servants. We've invested in making sure Wendell has the capacity and talent to serve a growing population. That means:

  • Supporting competitive raises and pay adjustments for town staff
  • Expanding salary ranges to help attract and retain skilled employees
  • Adding new staff in key areas including planning, stormwater, parks and recreation, public works, and police
  • Investing in new and improved staff work spaces and town facilities

Investing in Infrastructure

As Wendell grows, so has our commitment to making smart, forward-looking infrastructure investments:

  • Funded new sidewalk connections throughout town including connections between neighborhoods and to schools
  • Expanded our annual street resurfacing and stormwater maintenance programs to avoid deferred maintenance backlogs in the future
  • Supported Eastern Wake County’s first microtransit program, GoWake SmartRide NE, in partnership with Knightdale, Zebulon, and Wake County

Investing in Quality of Life

Wendell’s character and charm are central to what makes it a great place to live. We’ve protected and enhanced those qualities by:

  • Conserving land for parks, open space, and agriculture to ensure Wendell continues to have a high per capita amount of protected land
  • Approving easements and planning work to support the Buffalo Creek Greenway and other future trail connections
  • Partnering with Habitat for Humanity to support affordable homeownership on town-owned land
  • Advancing Wendell’s first Public Art Plan to support local artists, celebrate community identify, and guide future investments in visual art, murals, and public spaces
  • Championed historic preservation efforts to protect, preserve, and restore the historic properties and public history that help tell Wendell's story

Wendell is headed in the right direction but we can’t take progress for granted. I’m running for reelection to keep doing the work, building on what we’ve started, and making sure Wendell continues to be a place we’re proud to call home.
